West Park is a west side neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohiomarker. Originally part of Rockport Township, West Park was thought to be named after Benjamin West, an early settler; but in truth it was named for another early settler, John West. It was annexed to Cleveland in 1922, the last large suburb to become part of the city. It occupies a 12.5 sq. mi. area between W. 117th St. to the Rocky Rivermarker Valley and from Lakewoodmarker's southern boundaries to Interstate 480. This neighborhood presently encompasses the statistical planning areas of Kamm's Corners, Jefferson, Puritas-Longmead, and Riverside. The southern part of Riverside is mostly land annexed by Cleveland from Brook Parkmarker in 1947 and 1995 when the city expanded Cleveland Hopkins International Airportmarker into the territory. The area is predominantly an Irish-American and German-American neighborhood .
