William Downie Stewart (15 May 18421898) was a 19th century New Zealandmarker politician, and a lawyer.

He represented the City of Dunedin electorate from 1879 to 1881 when he was defeated (for Dunedin West), and then the Dunedin West electorate from 1884 to 1890 when he retired.

He was born in Kincardine near Stirlingmarker, Scotland.

His son William Downie Stewart (1878-1949) later represented the Dunedin West electorate.
