The
World Magnetic Tour is a current
concert tour by heavy metal band
Metallica, taking place from 2008 through 2010 in
support of their ninth studio album
Death Magnetic.
Metallica announced the first batch of dates on August 11, 2008.
Three extra dates were added on August 27 in Los Angeles, Chicago
and Newark and the first 11 dates of a European leg were added on
October 14 and October 15, 2008, with more dates announced
throughout the following days. There are still more dates to be
announced.
The support bands are changing throughout the tour. All October and
November shows featured
The Sword and
Down. All December shows featured
Lamb of God (except for the two
shows at The Forum, December 17 and December 18, where Machine Head
supported due to Lamb of God being banned from the venue), and The
Sword and also Up In Arms. All January shows featured
Machine Head and The Sword. The three
shows at Mexico City featured
Avenged
Sevenfold and
Resorte, and the shows at
Guadalajara and Monterrey will feature
Mastodon.
January saw the announcement of a brand
new festival at Knebworth
Park
in August 1 and 2 alongside Linkin Park named Sonisphere. Metallica will
headline all dates of the Sonisphere Festivals which take place in
five other European countries during July.
On June 4, 6 and 7 Metallica played on Mexico City and on July 7 on
Nimes, France. All these shows were recorded live and will be
featured on new DVD's. The Mexico City DVD,
Orgullo, Pasión y Gloria: Tres Noches en la Ciudad de
México, will be released on November 30, while the Nimes
DVD,
Francais Pour Une
Nuit, will be released on November 23. Also, the concerts
in Copenhagen and Quebec were recorded possibly for future DVD's or
fan cans.
