is a Japanese
politician of the Liberal Democratic Party, a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislature) and the current Minister of State in charge of the Declining Birthrate.
A graduate
of Seijo University, she worked at
the broadcaster TBS
from 1996 to 1998. She was elected to the
House of Representatives for the first time in 2000. Her father is
former prime minister
Keizō Obuchi
and her grandfather former member of the House of Representatives
Mitsuhei Obuchi.
In the Cabinet of Prime Minister
Taro Aso,
appointed on 24 September 2008, Obuchi, age 34, was appointed as
Minister of State in charge of the Declining Birthrate. This made
her Japan's youngest Cabinet member in the post-war era.
